What is a stoma guard or stoma protector?
A stoma guard — also called a stoma protector or stoma shield — is a rigid dome that sits over your ostomy pouch to shield the stoma from external pressure, impacts and friction. It's especially useful for active people, drivers, parents with small children, and anyone whose work involves physical activity.
Will it fit my ostomy pouch brand?
Yes. The SIIL Protector is designed to be 100% compatible with every major ostomy pouch brand — Coloplast, Hollister, ConvaTec, B. Braun, Pelican, NuHope, Marlen and Welland. It works with ileostomy, colostomy and urostomy pouches.
How does it attach to my pouch?
It attaches using VELCRO® Brand stickers included in your box. You peel a sticker from the sheet, stick it to your pouch, and the Protector clicks onto its matching hook strip. No belts, no straps, no buckles. Each sticker lasts about 2–3 days, and you can remove and reattach the Protector as many times as you like.
Can I drive or wear a seat belt with it on?
Absolutely — this is actually one of the most common reasons ostomates buy it. The rigid dome distributes the pressure of the seat belt across your abdomen instead of directly on the stoma. Many users say it was the first thing that let them drive again without anxiety.
Can I wear it swimming or in the shower?
The Protector itself is waterproof and can be worn swimming, surfing or in the shower. The VELCRO® stickers will weaken faster with heavy water exposure, so plan to replace the sticker after a full day in the pool or sea.
Is it visible under clothes?
No. The beige colourway matches most skin tones and its low-profile shell (about 3 cm thick) disappears under jeans, dresses, swimwear and work uniforms. Customers frequently report that even their partners don't notice it.
How do I clean it?
Hand-wash with warm water and a mild soap, then air-dry in a clean, dry place. Avoid hot water and harsh chemicals — they can damage the polymer over time. The Protector itself is reusable for years.
